It's largely meaningless.

1. The first Xbox racked up losses in the range of $4 billion to beat the GC by about 3m units worldwide. This easily secured Microsoft a spot in the top 3 failures of video game history. If you are ever in need of an example for a pyrrhic victory, the Xbox vs. GC fulfills that purpose formidably.

2. The 360 was eight years on the market before its successor was released, the Wii only six years. Not only did the Wii accumulate its sales faster, it was also significantly more profitable.

3. The Wii U will go down in history as one of Nintendo's most idiotic decisions. Analogy: If the year was 1990, then Nintendo would have launched the SNES with an Atari joystick look-alike instead of the actual SNES controller that was an evolution of the NES controller. Outselling the Wii U is no achievement.

4. Here is the real kicker: The Xbox franchise didn't come into existence to beat Nintendo. The real enemy goes by the name of PlayStation. Xbox vs. PS2 was a brutal defeat for Microsoft, 360 vs. PS3 was only a battle because Sony messed up so spectacularly (PS4 sales show how little Sony would have had to do to stay ahead of Microsoft; essentially, a $400 system), One vs. PS4 is going to be another massacre.

5. And to make this post go full circle: Nintendo is still around and they will continue to stay around, so being outsold by Xbox in a couple of countries is largely meaningless.

what does the halo studio got to do with this?
