I actually found the dark atmosphere very emotional, especially when you had to collect those tears in every area to purify it. And yes, I know many people hated that part of the game, but I loved it. Hearing the thoughts of the souls of the people was just very atmospheric.

But hey, I also think Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is the best Metroid. Perhaps I just like dark atmospheric games. :)

Haven't played ALttP, but I will some day. Is it on the VC of the Wii U? I'm from Europe by the way. A Link between Worlds is one of my favorite Zelda games by the way, maybe even my favorite(together with TP).

I'm not sure I would describe TP as "dark" so much as alien. The dark elements can be summarized in one cutscene, which is a flashback and has no lasting reprocussions on the plot. First time becoming a wolf certainly made me uncomfortable, and that was clearly the intent.

The problem is that TP was very self-conscious about being dark. When Ocarina wanted to be dark, it dropped adult Link into a ruined Castle Town and implied the redeads were the people who used to live there.  When Majora wanted to be dark, Romani gets abducted by aliens, disappears for a whole day, and comes back LOBOTOMIZED just in time to be obliterated by the falling moon.

Yikes.

When TP wants to be dark, we get a cutscene on how power corrupts. Not only is this not particularly dark compared to the other two, but it wasn't even plot relevant as Midna never got corrupted by the power.

I confess I haven't played ALTTP either. I've seen Let's Plays, but I have a doozy of a time playing old 2D games. My brain just doesn't work that way.

Still waiting for a remake of MM, never owned an N64... Hope it comes soon, I knew about the alien abduction thing and I agree it's brilliant.

But come'on, this is an incredible cutscene! And the music is just great.
