I take it you consider main series not LR? Some people do, I don't.but just checking.
If not then FFV. It's my favorite 2D one with the best gameplay of the 2D FF and doesn't take itself too seriously, and Gilgamesh.
Even then, FF is my favorite series I'd probably rate every game at its metacritic score or below. So... Idk
FFIX has the highest meta score and is always brought up in forums...
