Keep in mind when it was named we could barely see that there was any other planets in the solar system with us never mind seeing moons orbiting them so we just named our one the definitive article of Moons :D
Also in our own system there is only one Satellite in our system which has more density than our moon it's the big boy at Jupiter Io, Our moon is pretty large in how scientists pretty much think it formed after Earth and Mars (or a mars sized planetary body) had a crack off each other a few hundred million years ago.
