I came away impressed with the 3D on 3DS when I tried it at E3 but doesn't mean the technology is good for every day gaming, I only play my 3ds with 3d off.
That the problem between a 5 min tech demo and a 2 hours gaming session using these technology there gimmicky.
Sadly with everyone different vision needs and the amount of Details needed for VR, I would think VR will be very similar to 3D techonology.
If you can't market it to the masses they wont support it. Could imagine how much development cost would skyrocket with VR.
