However, I love the unified architecture and scalability idea for the next console/handheld generation.

I agree, two versions of essentially the same hardware, Nintendo Fusion Home & Nintendo Fusion Portable.

Home version slightly more powerful than Wii U, think the jump from Gamecube to Wii, displays games In 1080p.

Portable versiom moderately more powerful than Vita, think the difference between PSP & 3DS, displays games in 720p.

Both versions released Fall 2016 for $199 at a slight profit.

Nintendo has a hard time supporting two platforms at the same time but they could easily give excellent support to a single platform. It would essentially double Nintendo's output and would allow them to branch out and make new ip since they wont need go make 2 seperate versions of all there big franchises. Also since Nintendo handhelds get strong Japanese 3rd party support that would mean the console version would as well. Nintendo games+Japanese 3rd parties would be able to fully support the system and any western 3rd party support would just be a nice bonus.

Look at Wii U+3DS line up last year to see what kind of support u could expect. Pikmin 3+Animal Crossing+Fire Emblem+Luigi's Mansion+Lego City+Mario 3D World+Wii Party+Pokemon X/Y+Monster Hunter 4+Wonderful 101+Link Between Worlds+Wind Waker HD+DKC Returns 3D+Mario Party+Splinter Cell+Assassin's Creed+Call of Duty+Just Dance+Skylanders+Disney Infinity+a ton of niche Japanese games.
