Have you played Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed on the Wii U at launch? The game was a broken mess made by incompetent developers. It was a rushed and lazy port. Some sections of the game were litteraly unplayable. We've seen plenty of footage already from Mario Kart 8. I haven't seen a game look that good on the PS3/XBOX360 ever, so there's that. As ever with realistic games on the PS3/XBOX360, they look like plastic*cough* god of war 3 * cough* I'd rather play an artistic game than games with a monotone color palette. *cough* Batman: Arkham City* (Great game though, if you ignore the graphics) Vibrant colors are sorely lacking on a lot of PS3/XBOX360 games. Guess the consoles were just not powerful enough. Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed only runs at 30 frames per second. That's bad for a racing game and if you can't see the difference with Mario Kart 8(which runs at 60 fps and there are rumors that it's also running on 1080p) then you're just blind. |
Sonic racing transformed is a brilliant game, I actually bought it on a few different formats including wii u, pc and ps3. I think its fantastic and the first kart racing game I feel has been competitive with mariokart in a long time. The main complaint I have with the wii u version is the low resolution and occasionally frame rate issue. The frame rate issue also effects ps3. The PC version is amazing and I run that on my humbe £200 pc in 1080p with 3D output. Truly stunning. I don't judge them harshly for the wii u version though as most developers for wii u launch games produced games below the standard of 360 and PS3 and the same issue is going on now with reduced frame rates on wii u games. In some levels of Sonic transformed the graphics are jaw dropping.
The bias is strong in you. I've played about 12 different games on my wii u and seen their level of detail on my projector, not impressive. Generally the Xbox 360 and PS3 are easily comparable and superior most of the time depending on game genre. My experience is backed up by the vast majority of eurogamer faceoff's where they carefully compare to the wii u performance level to other consoles. I'm not saying anything that isn't supported by the evidence out there.
Well Donkey Kong was 720p and so was Mario 3D world so its unlikely Mario kart is truly 1080p. They only seem to manage it on Zelda windwaker and that was a game that ran at 480p on a 8 gflops gpu console so hardly impressive to run at 1080p on a console that has a gpu running at at least 176 gflops.
Don't think I haven't seen a few effects or lighting that is impressive on wii u but the overall performance level seems weak. It's clear the later wii u gpu architecture can produce a few things better than old gen but the extra cpu power of ps3/360 often provides many enhancements too.
I can't help but agree with consumers who are not interesting in wii u currently. Unless you are a fan of Nintendo games like myself there are few reasons to buy currently.
We will simply have to disagree with Mariokart 8 graphics. I'm happy to wait until more detail is available. I'm expecting a artistically attractive but not particularly impressive technically game.
