Basically people on websites like this, but do you think everyone shares those feelings? Answer me this, what is drawing the casual gamers to the PS4? If your answer is graphics, then do you really think you will attract the large portion of casual gamers that Sony needs to support a graphics powerhouse like the PS4? If the answer is one of the various PS4 gizmos, then do you think that gizmo is easy enough for casual gamers to figure out and use on masse. Keeping in mind that most casuals had to refer to the instruction manual just to figure out how the PS3 laser activated power button worked... |
Well there's about 80 million of these non-casual loyalists, so arguably PS4 doesn't even need casuals to outsell Xb one by a pretty decent margin. After all PS3 was a failed console so it really only sold to the loyal PS fanbase, right? All the swing buyers and casuals went from PS2 to X360 and Wii. You don't think a substsantial number of the swing buyers will swing back to PS4? Other than a wish and a prayer there's no basis to think all those swing buyers will stay with Xbox, especially not with a less powerful and more expensive product. But Xb one wins the casual war. Great! I hope that goes well.
Also PS3 also >23 million at prices $399 and above (the real core fans). Xbox 360 dropped its Pro sku (that came with a HDD) below $399 after 360 had only sold <12 million units. So it seems there are possibly a great many willing buyers of PS4 at the $399 price point, and quite a bit fewer willing Xb one buyers even at $399, which it may or may not achieve in 2014.
We also know the mass market price point is $299. X360 had it's non-Kinect peak when the Pro sku hit $299. And we all know what PS3 did at $299. Unless there's a Kinectless sku, PS4 will almost certainly hit $299 before Xb one. Globally the generation is PS4's to lose. Xb one can only realistically compete in NA and UK
