To be fair, none of the news covering it even HAD the word demo. If there was, it'd be mentioned, like the many malls / Best Buy tours Nintendo had.
Not their fault you, along with others for the umpteenth time, had your expectations too high. Keep them in check next time, if that's not a tall order to fill. At least you didn't completely hate it... I think.
Besides, if they did show a demo, odds are it would be the one they had since E3, and you (or another user) would probably STILL be disappointed for not having an updated version.
On the video itself, the mechanics are fairly interesting, but if the karts were faster (and the track was wider to avoid immense collisions), then we'd be getting somewhere with this technology.
