You've got to balance what you like with marketability. I'm not saying that you have to get a STEM degree, for instance, but in my case i took International Relations instead of History in undergrad because IR lets you do more stuff (not for profit and government work), and now i'm in grad school with a degree in International Development majoring in Not-for-profits and civil society (to focus on not-for-profit work), instead of a human security or policy research degree, because the not-for-profit degree is more career oriented, teaching real skills

So just go with whatever inspires you and make sure to keep an eye on how that can make you money realistically.
