I'd really love to see a futuristic or steampunk version of this series. I'm really surprised this wasn't listed as an option in the poll, as the rumor mill was spinning with this idea for a while while fans fantasized about Retro working on the series.
There's so many ways the series can go in this direction, and you'd probably be more likely to attract the Sony/Microsoft fans as well. But as someone has been stating recently in a thread here, Nintendo is afraid to make that drastic of a change.
