Come on, Mario and Peach are not thogether, in the beggining Bowser really kidnaped the Princess, but by accident they falled in love(You know how this is, like the Stocolmo Disorder) but Mario got in the middle, now they run away every 4 or 5 years... they already have a child (Who probably killed the other 7)...
Mario is kinda childminded, Bowser always keeps him busy with stars, shines and stuff like that (The koopa army helps too, but with the years we see less and less of them)... so, this way, Mario gets busy with something (And happy) and the Princess have time to "spare" with the Big Turtle... (She is waiting for Mario, with nothing to do for several hours...)
In the end Bowser is defeated (Never killed), the Princess is "happy" and Mario gets Cake (For real)...
