Trophy and Achievement hunters, When do you look at a guide?

I consider it sort of both a personal fail, and sometimes on the game developers if I have to look for a guide to finish the game. It's not sporting, and I didn't buy a game to walk through someone else's path.

If it's a silly thing, then I feel silly I didn't figure it out. But sometimes they are just mean game developers and just seems like I would never figure it out.

If I'm going for achievements and have played through already a time or two, I'll look for at a guide. Sometimes it's something like, 'look at the lady, turn, walk backwards, and find a chicken. Kick the chicken and it will leave a golden egg.' Stuff like that I have no idea how anyone ever figures it out.
