I really think the Gamepad as a second screen just isn't understood well when playing multiplayer. We have both the PS3 and the WiiU and COD is far preferred on WiiU because of the ability to have the entire screen to yourself. No matter how big the screen, having something occur that isn't you on it at the same time is a distraction.
Another reason is just the ability to switch game play to the Gamepad. I walk into a room ready to watch something on the 65 inch screen, there's no argument. A few clicks and everything is still good to go in most cases for anyone using the WiiU.
