But yet their software sold the most last gen. No exclusive of MS and Sony could even get a third of the sales Mario Kart 7 and Wii Sports got. They had many high rated games from the critics. So perhaps continuing to make the same games that people like is better than trying something totally new.  

Those games will have no lasting impact on the video game industry. Sales are great for current relevance, just look in any industry really (music and film particularly), but just as the music and films that perform well commercially do not always have the most impact, the same can be said for the video games that sell the most.
