Dungeon of the Endless now with added science
I’ve been quietly addicted to Dungeon of the Endless since it was released through Early Access just before Christmas. Its mix of roguelike and tower defense mechanics is absorbing and more than one day has turned to night and back to day again before I stop playing. The latest release has added a new resource: science.
It’s going to change everything.
Stuffed elephants, childhood trauma, and changing mechanics; Oscar’s a different sort of platformer
Team Sharkeye are keeping the details of Oscar close to their chest but what they are saying is intriguing. It will be a game that explores a young girl’s escapist fantasies in what appears to be a painterly platformer.
Appearances are designed to deceive.
DayZ team expanded “effectively doubling the whole project”
Development of DayZ is ramping up: Bohemia have drafted a whole new set of developers onto the team, according to lead Dean Hall that’s “effectively doubling the whole project. Besides the new team members, work has begun on the cooking system.
You could say things are *hotting up*. (Don’t worry, I’ve already stapled my hand to the desk as punishment.)
Path of Exile: Sacrifice of the Vaal trailer shows gore, gizzards, and loot
It’s been four months since free-to-play Diablo-like Path of Exile was released and we’re due the first of the game’s mini expansions, Sacrifice of the Vaal. It brings new bosses, areas, PvP modes, skill gems, and items.
As updates go it’s pretty stonking big. Grinding Gear have released a trailer for easy digestion of all the gory details.

The student becomes the master: Rise of the Triad's Interceptor acquires 3D Realms
Two of the most important names is FPS history - 3D Realms and Apogee Software, Ltd. - have transferred to a new owner capable of making use of them. Rise of the Triad remake developers Interceptor Entertainment announced that they have acquired the one-time Duke Nukem company over the weekend.
Riot roll out beta Team Builder for League of Legends, lay foundations for "great teamwork"
In real-world work, team building exercises mean everybody losing a perfectly good day to go-karting or zorbing. In League of Legends, it’s going to mean less time wasted, not more: the new Team Builder is a queue system designed to telegraph players’ favourite roles and champions to each other before they hit the lanes.
New 3D Realms owner claims that Interceptor had not announced a new Duke Nukem game
Duke Nukem’s become more synonymous with high profile cock-ups and lawsuits than quality gaming of late. There was the long wait for Duke Nukem Forever, which turned out to be terrible, 3D Realms suing Gearbox over royalties and Gearbox suing 3D Realms and Interceptor for attempting to release a new Duke Nukem game despite not controlling the IP. And now Interceptor, the studio behind the Rise of the Triad remake and the aforementioned Duke Nukem game which is unlikely to see the light of day, has acquired 3D Realms.
But Mike Nielsen, new owner of 3D Realms and part owner of Interceptor, told Eurogamer that Interceptor hadn’t announced a new Duke Nukem game, which makes this Facebook page and website all the more confusing. “We have not officially announced anything, other than we're doing a game,” he said. 3D Realms even admitted wrongdoing, named the game, and apologised. Is your head hurting? Mine is.
Tabletop Simulator looks table-flipping wonderful
The existence of digital tabletop games is one of the best things to come out of this confusing universe. Sometimes I like to think they are just created for me. Most of my local chums don’t care for tabletop gaming at all, even if they care about video games. So it’s rare that I can sit down and play anything, whether it’s chess or Dungeons & Dragons.
Berserk’s Tabletop Simulator's premade games cater to fans of the more traditional tabletop games, like backgammon and checkers, but that’s the only traditional thing about this multiplayer, customisable sandbox. There are no rules. This might seem a bit bonkers when games are all about rules, but Berserk hopes that without restrictions, players will create their own rules and make their own games.
Two million accounts have led to an abundance of gibs in Loadout
In Loadout, death is always just over you shoulder, waiting to make you explode into glorious gibs with a tesla rocket or an explosive shotgun blast. Developer Edge of Reality says that the F2P multiplayer shooter boasted over 2 million registered accounts after only 14 days.
That’s probably led to more than a few deaths and the creation of a lot colourful guns throughout the 9 million hours that players have collectively clocked into it.
Blizzard gearing up to invite people into Heroes of the Storm technical alpha
Heroes of the Storm is preparing to move into technical alpha, Blizzard revealed today. The MOBA filled with champions from Blizzard’s robust library will be available to a limited number of invitees, only from the US. Bugger.
“We’ve been hard at work on Heroes of the Storm since you last got your hands on the game at BlizzCon 2013 and we’re gearing up to invite a very limited number of players to join us in an initial phase of infrastructure and technology testing that we’re calling the Technical Alpha,” Blizzard said.
Get buff: 50 percent XP bonus in Diablo 3 lets you prepare for Reaper of Souls
With Reaper of Souls dropping on March 25th, you’ll probably want to prepare. Beyond cancelling any engagements and thinking up excuses to avoid responsibilities from that Tuesday onwards, I mean. To lend a helping hand, Blizzard’s instituted a temporary 50 percent XP bonus in Diablo 3, the lovely devils.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's director calls reviewer "blind or stupid"
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, the final Castlevania title developed by MercurySteam, was welcomed with mixed critical reception. Despite its good looks and powerful protagonist, it failed to live up to its predecessor, shoe-horning in unpleasant stealth sections and dull, modern environments. I enjoyed it despite this, as I said in our inaugural Port Inspection, but it’s taken a bit of a lashing from reviewers.
Studio boss Enric Alvarez has spoken out against reviewers and scores, showing an awkward lack of humility. The game isn’t uneven, he claims, it’s just that the reviewers who had serious problems with the game are “blind”, “stupid” and unprofessional.
Bloodlines and ziplines: Titanfall leaks tell of turrets, Generations mode bonuses and more
“We can rebuild him... we have the technology.”
That’s the fictional conceit behind Titanfall’s leaked Generations mode. Years of jumping off roofs and punting yourself 30 feet into the air from exploding robots have taken their toll on your legs. But you can be regenerated - at a small permanent cost to your experience and any memories of a time before space wars.
Mechanically speaking, that means losing all of your character levels, unlocked perks and challenge progress - but we haven’t known what the trade-off is until now.
