In some games yes. Mark my words, microtransactions will go away completely in console gaming after 2-3 years of this gen, but will totally explode 10-fold in mobile gaming, general software, and social networking. Personally, I don't think it fits the console model well at all and will fizzle. Even though only a small percentage is needed, I don't think enough of the market will adopt into it, to justify paying for manhours and other incidentals to keep it around after a few more years...Look at how many people already refuse to play Warframe, Blacklight, and the like? When you get GWG and PS+IGS which are basically required now for all, you aren't going to have huge amounts of people willing to pay to play partial experiences, and time passing only lessens the niche, IMO. Now with facebook, and cell phone games and whatnot, you have far less QUALITY entertainment alternatives if that is your chosen medium, and you find pay to play games that you get heavily into.
