I'm liking Ground Zeroes approach. For $30, I'm willing to give most reasonably good game a shot for a few hours. If it's something I like a lot, I never mind paying $60 into the game total.
The pay-to-win setup disgusts me though. Ascend: Hand of Kul (360) was one of this worst offenders of this IMO.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
