Probably because the first one turned off a lot of people. The first one was pure garbage.

Nah, gameplay mechanics were just bad. And the platforming was just so painfully horrible. But the gameplay in 2 was so much smoother.

They did correct a lot of the issues in the second one, but I thought the first one was a good starting point for a new IP.  I certainly found it entertaining, and I definitely enjoyed the story of the first one more than the sequel.  I hope that SuckerPunch can continue to expand and push the limits of the series.  It looks like a lot of people are ready to jump into this series for the first time so SP definitely needs to knock it out of the park.
