I haven't posted on these forums in a very longtime, but recent events have led me to creating this post. It may be conisdered by some as bragging, but to me, it was a case of Gamers 1 - Greedy Corp 0.
A few weeks ago, I went to my local Tesco and bought a copy of Just Dance 2014 for my PS4. I thought it would come in handy as my Mrs is trying out various fitness videos and my nephews and nieces loved singstar. For me, it also was another oppertunity to take horrible videos of family and friends and use them at a later date for blackmailing purposes :p
A week after making the purchase, I finally got the oppertunity to put the game into action (wife was away for a week to Glasgow). I put the game on, rallied the nephews and nieces and what followed was something I didnt think off - the game was an utter pile of shit. The darn thing wouldn't work! It wouldn't pick up players, track movements nor did it have any calibrating options. After a day or so of attempts and failure, I went online and through various forums only to be told the game is a mess if you play it with the PS EYE alone. To get it to work, you must use the PS Move, although as it says on the box, it should work fine without it.
As any angry gamer would do, I went back to Tesco and got told the only thing they can do is to swap it for a new copy of the same game! Over the next 20 minutes, I tried to explain to not one, but 3 customer service advisors at the store the game has coding issues due to lazy development and nothing changed their minds. According to them, policy states I can only swap like for like i.e. the same game. I told them how stupid it was as all I will do is take a new copy home, break the seal and return it and then do this until I have gone through every copy they have in store, and they were happy for me to do this.
As any gamer would do, what followed next was a phone call to Tesco Customer Services. I explained to the dude what had happened and the customer service at the local Tesco was made up of imbeciles. Then I dared him and his manager to google "JUST DANCE 2014 PS4 Issues / camera problems." 2 minutes later, the dude bro returns and tells me to go back to the store and to tell them Head Office has told them to give me a full refund and if they dont believe you to give a reference number. Hoozah!!!
As any male gamer would do, I return back to the store. Mental image of badass explosions going off behind me, holding a cigar in my mouth and 2 overly sexy hotties in minimalistic clothing either side of me with sparklers in their hands cheering my name. Walk up to the custmer service counter where I get an odd look from one of the women who served me a few hours earlier followed by a comment. This is how it went down:
Tesco CLerk: so you already gone home and tried it have you?
Me: no, I spoke to your Head Office. They actually chose to listen and this helped them understand what I was saying. They agreed swapping it would be pointless and stupid. They chose to do the research and they want you to give me a refund.
Tesco Clerk: (eat crow look on her face) - Do you have a reference number?
Me: Here you go
Tesco Clerk: (picks up phone and calls head office. mumbles quietly. asks a few questions about whether they are sure. looks down. processes a full refund)
Me: Will you be taking the game of the shelves?
Tesco Clerk: I can't right now, but Head office did check online forums and they will be emailing a brief to take it off all the Tesco shelves.
Outer me: Yes, I wouldn't want anyone else ripped off. Thank you.
Inner me: F*** Yeeaahhhhhhh! Gamer activist level 9000!!!
Anyway, anyone have any similar experiences or come across situations where you were not happy with game you purchased and on return, you were turned away due to the sales clerks not knowing they are talking about?
