While I am not saying that Nintendo should strive to be on the same level as Disney went it comes to mass media, I do think that they should be making strides to have some mass media relevance. Sega is making Sonic Boom. Sony is make the Sly Cooper movie. I think that Nintendo should be doing more than that. Maybe one or two movies out a year and maybe three or four television shows running at a time. That's nothing on the scale of what Disney is doing, but it is far more than anything done before by a gaming company. Look at what the Pokemon television show is still doing for the Pokemon franchise. Nintendo should be doing much more of that. Get into a partnership with Cartoon Network. Do something. That's what I'm getting at. On themeparks: But some of them are, are they not? |
Ah, yeah I see what you're saying and I completely agree. It would be better for them to get in partnerships and let Disney or Cartoon Network produce those movies, TV shows, and theme parks attractions centered around Nintendo's characters. That way the risk can be shared and Nintendo won't have to take the risk of buying movie and telelivision studios. In fact, it would awesome if Disney merged with Nintendo. Then we could see Nintendo's characters getting much more exposure as well. Its a huge oppurtunity and more exposure for the lesser known characters would boost game sales as well. And just imagine how much money can be made from the merchandise. That Disney management really know how to run a business...
Themeparks are not very stable. Disney themeparks are the most successful and account for 17% of Disney's profits but they are an exception. Some themepark companies like Six Flags have struggled in the past and even some of Disney's themeparks like the one in Paris makes loses.
