I got the 40GB model.
I'm guessing it's the lens as it can't read any discs but must admit that I have no idea...
To be honest, checked other forums (googled "PS3 can't discs" or something like that) and a lot came up. Wanted to check on VG as it seems to be a site representing PS, Wii and MS reather equally.
Still like my PS3 though, just want it back (bought a 360 when it came out and unsurprisingly and it RRDed on me though no such pbs since it came back, Wii, no probs yet)
