Blizzard will price World of Warcraft level 90 boost at $60 to avoid "devaluing" levelling
Comments8Warlords of Draenor is about as inclusive as WoW expansions get: each copy comes with a magic wand to wave at one of your characters and bring them right up to level 90.
It wasn’t a surprise to learn that Blizzard would be selling an identical boost via WoW’s in-game store, but the price turned heads: $60.
Blizzard have assured players that they’re not running a “profit maximising” scheme - but instead ensuring that WoW’s levelling zones don’t become NPC-only wastelands.
Silent Enemy is a game about bullying in which you're not the perpetrator
CommentWe spend a lot of times in our games being bullies. We manipulate environments and the people in them; we knock NPCs over and laugh as they struggle to get back up. It can’t really be helped that those are the most entertaining ways to interact - but it’s cool to see somebody explicitly explore the other perspective.
Minority are the Montreal lot who made Papo and Yo - a game which, when stripped of its fantasy, was about navigating a Brazilian favela with your abusive, alcoholic father. They’re nearly done on their new thing - a puzzle-laden adventure about high school bullying.
A house but no home: The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 2 trailered to nail-bitey effect
Comment“A house divided against itself... would be better than this!”, intones Masterbuilder Abraham Lincoln in the Lego Movie, before pootling off in his rocket chair into the stratosphere.
Abe was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press, but The Walking Dead Season 2: A House Divided promises to be better than all sorts of things. That’s an impression based on our Fraser’s fairly glowing Episode 1: All That Remains review, as well as this here trailer.
Flipping puzzles: Munin is a physics platformer starring Odin's former raven
Comments1Imagine how easy platformers would be if you could fly. You could make a beeline for the final castle and be back in the pleasant but security-lax Mushroom Kingdom by teatime.
Short of a future Mario microtransaction, though, it’s not to be: Munin’s raven protagonist has been stripped off her wings and transformed by that pesky Tom ‘Loki’ Hiddleston into a mortal girl. She’s consequently forced to traipse through the nine worlds of Yggdrasil using only her legs and the ability to rotate bits of the environment. Er, hang on - can all mortals do this?
Fantasy Dota kicks off with the ASUS ROG DreamLeague Season #1 tournament
CommentI’ve never played in a fantasy league, mainly because there isn’t a single league that I follow, in any sport. But the strategy, planning and backroom deals that go on in these things is almost intoxicating, making me wish I gave more of a damn.
There’s hope for me yet, though, because the Dota 2 fantasy league system, Fantasy Dota, has kicked off. It sounds more up my street. You’ll need a tournament ticket to get involved, and it’s starting with the ASUS ROG DreamLeague Season #1 tournament.
CCP to celebrate 10 years of Fanfest at Fanfest 2014, May 1st - May 3rd
CommentCCP’s annual celebration of the EVE franchise, which now includes EVE Online, Dust 514 and EVE Valkyrie, and its players is going to be a pretty massive one, this year.
It’s the tenth anniversary of EVE Fanfest, taking place in Reykjavik, Iceland from May 1st until May 3rd. It’s going to be marked by the unveiling of a 16-foot monument with the name of every player’s main character etched into the stone.
Dead Island: Epidemic shambles into closed beta
CommentARTSs, MOBAs, MOTAs, ZOMBAs, when are we going to get some consistent nomenclature for the genre? It’s all very peculiar. Presumably developers are making so many MOBAs right now because of the success of the likes of Dota and LoL, yet at the same time they make a pretty big effort not to be linked to the genre at all. It’s exhausting.
But despite constantly marketing it as a ZOMBA (Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena), Deep Silver’s tongue does appear to be firmly in its cheek when it comes to its free-to-play Dead Island: Epidemic, at least. It knows its made a MOBA, but it doesn’t want you to forget zombies are in it. And it’s now moved into closed beta.
