The sales numbers prove Iwata wrong and they will not get better anytime soon, even games like Mariokart 8 will not change that. Drastic changes are required and if he cannot do it, he needs to be replaced. The Wii Sports Bundle is the first step into the right direction, shutting down the Wii online service however is not.
Nintendo could bring out a system based on android without Google services, like the android version used by Amazon or Nokia. A Nintendo controlled Android Marketplace could offer unique games that require real Hardware controls only found in Nintendo's own mobile devices. Independent developers like Square Enix could easily port thousands of existing apps over and release it through Nintendos appstore.
