So, for clarification:
SMS is moving into a bigger facility this summer - this new facility is being constructed right now from the ground up and furthermore will feature a state-of-the-art recording studio and a cutting-edge motion capture facility. Since this expansion announcement they were increasingly searching for new talented people to join the team.
And I just checked the job openings on the SMS and Sony PlayStation website and guess what: There are a bunch of job openings available, and many of them are for senior positions
A valid reason for the recent lay-off is that Santa Monica Studio simply has received pretty good applications to replace rather mediocre people with really great and talented people. And the timing could not be better, just before moving into a new facility.
What now will be interesting is whether the one of the unannounced projects really has been cancelled or not as Sony did not comment on that matter.
...seeing people arguing that Sony fired those couple persons in order to save money is really depressing. Do you know how big Sony is and how many employees they have?
Really, if you don't understand anything about economy and furthermore do not know a single thing (facts!) what is happening on the side of a developer studio, you should better be quiet and stop spreading false information. |
ok i spit my drink. you work for sony? i mean only sony corporate and those at santa monica know what happen. i made a post a few days ago citing the recent article about how long can sony survive and was mock lol.... i had to laugh at that. laying off employees, selling off assets, closing sony stores. sony fans better buy every exclusive if they like them or not to keep that boat floating. everybody xbox fans and all cried and saying the craziest stuff like that MS corporation want to make money with the whole DRM stuff. I wonder what gamers will do when all they have left to play are mobile games.

Literally billions of loss from tvs. Suddenly the whole company is in trouble of...i dunno what are you trying to say? If we dont buy exclusives sony will shut down??

u think people know how much money sony makes from its financials arm and its entertainment arm? That's around 3 billion in a year of profits. Their imaging division makes a good amount of money too around 200 million a year and I expect more now with them going into medical. Playstation is profiting at around 500 million - maybe even a billion if the ps4 keeps up the momentum. Mobile is breaking even or is even making a profit now they had the #3 mobile revenue last year behind samsung and apple. loss leading tv is being split off and loss maker vaio has been sold. Sony is actually in a better position now that it doesn't have to subsidize those loss making divisions. Also so-net wholly owned by sony recently is setting up gigabit internet in Japan and they make a good healthy profit as well.
Xbox fans have been very disrespectful, hostile, and very uptight much more lately as iv'e seen. Hmm the ****hurt and desperation is strong with this ONE... nice an make ONE puns too! :p

I guess tres thinks the gaming division makes up about 90% of the entire company and therefore it is also responsible for 90% of revenues?!
