Essentially, more evolved consoles and games and far larger game catalogues (I'm including 3rd parties and excluding shovelware).

No no, it's not about my opinion. Everything that Nintendo has produced is actually giving back. I'm not taking into account my tastes. I don't talk about good or bad. I talk about more or less evolved, larger or smaller, anything that can be measurable. Whether I like Nintendo games has no relevance at all.

Proprietary memory cards are a bad thing. Mini-disc format for what? PSP? Vita? Portables haven't enough size to have CD/DVD/BR. Betamax was just an attempt to set the standard (like VHS, CD, DVD, Blu-ray), I can't criticize them for that.

Nevertheless, Sony Game Division has given back as much as it has taken (see the profits history). And that's a fact. Whether you like or not the products that come from the money they've invested, just already your opinion.

Gimmick - "a special feature for the sake of having a special feature"

It's not about whether it's appreciated or not by the gamers. Nintendo without the WiiU gamepad had no strategy for the 8th gen. They have introduced a special feature for the sake of having a special feature.

Same thing could be said about ds4, the touch pad is just a gimmick. And to be honest, it seems Nintendo doesn't have a solid plan WITH the gamepad yet. I do love having a second screen, to me it feels less gimmicky than the wii motes.

Wii was my most hated Nintendo system. I did not really support Nintendo much last gen. I bought the console day one, but didn't buy any games for it after the first year.

They took a chance with the gamepad, and I really like what they did. I wish they would utilize more often, but as DKC:TP has shown, they can't come up with ideas for it all the time or for every game. But the games that do use the gamepad brilliantly, really make the controller stand out. I would support second screen gaming for any console.
