With the success story of the fastest selling console continuing today with PS4 becoming the 8th gen leader 3 months after launch, when will the milestone of 50% marketshare come to fruition? If at all. It almost looks a foregone conclusion at this stage in the game.

I believe by January 2015, Ps4 should comfortable take at least 50% marketshare. This was such a focal point of the Wii era that ALMOST came to pass but never happened.

PS4's lifetime market share will definitely exceed 50%, there is absolutely no question about it. However, how much more it can go is a bit unknown at this point. My estimations (based on careful and scientific calculation) gives me a range of 54-67% of total market share for PS4. As a matter of fact below are the estimated global lifetime market shares for all consoles.

PS4 : 54-67%
XB1 : 19-30%
WiiU: 10-20%

For numbers to add up, I'll give a couple of exams :
If PS4 : 67%, this implies WiiU : 10%, which implies XB1 : 23%
If XB1 : 19%, this implies WiiU : 20%, which implies PS4 : 61%
If WiiU : 15%, this implies PS4 : 57-65%, and XB1 : 20-28%
etc...

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%
