As a fellow Norwegian, let me ask you one important question; which provider do you have? Would it happen to be Get or Canal Digital?

Nope, Telenor. I don't think you can find any better where I live (Nordfjord).

I see. I know there have been issues with Get and Canal Digital, they often sell more bandwidth from individual centrals. The salesmen are asked to fill a quota in a given area to justify the cost of the central (which is hired from Telenor in CD's case) and sometimes they sell more than the central capacity can handle, this is especially true in areas where several or many customers opt for a speed that lies somewhat or high above the average; the quota and customer number are calculated as "average" customers, so upgrading the speed will cause anomalies. The worst bits are in times with high traffic, naturally.

Another known issue is that some centrals refresh and re-run the IP's every week, every month or even every day, that could very well be your issue here since it happens at a given time every day. I believe it could be Windows 8 not functioning very well with the drivers of the modem or acting up with the router, the latency loss while undergoing the IP checks and/or refresh could cause a momentary wave of disturbance that the modem and laptop in tandem perceive as a software issue, while the problem itself does not persist long enough or make a big enough impact to register as an actual system fault, so it likely won't show up on any reports for debug or registry logs.

Hard to say without actually witnessing the problem first-hand but I would send an e-mail to them and notify them of your troubles and ask if and how often and when they run IP checks/refresh.

PS: You live in the most gorgeous county in Norway!

Thanks, I'll send them a message unless I somehow manage to find a fix tomorrow morning. But my school PC has Windows 8 as well, which isn't helping narrowing down the problem. But contacting Telenor might be the best thing to do.

And to the PS, you're absolutely right! :D Not as practical as Oslo or Bergen, but "du kan ikkje få i både påse og sekk."

Hehe, så sant så sant, derfor jeg flyttet til Sverige!
