Clearly they were paid by Microsoft. I mean. It's the same developer that developed Killer Instinct. Just got to put two and two together.
When they hired them to develop Killer Instinct they already announced Strider. So the contract probably read like this. Develop Killer Instinct and accidentally mess up and leave a graphical effect out of the PS4 version of Strider.
