So, what Polygon is saying is people should just be buying PC's, and then, take the time to learn which setting has more of an effect on your resource pool... Other than developers not having to worry about multiple hardware sets, this is one of the major reasons people buy consoles, so they don't have to dick around with settings.

Additionally, you have no idea how much of an effect this could have on developers during the R/D phase of an engine, when they have to think about multiple settings.  Increasing framerate here, or resolution there could very well use resources that are necessary for other functionality, and again, this is making the developers worry about more than just focusing on the game.

I prefer getting the game the developers envisioned, if it's not up to my standards for a game, I don't buy it.   It's that simple.
