Well as I stated, in the thread, if you're so into gaming that you're going to be be a regular on a gaming forum, then you're going to have a broader variety of titles than your average gamer. With less than 40 JRPGs listed with well over a few hundred being localized in the west, most of those being from the same few series, Pokemon fans stating an opinion of it being one of the best JRPGs and denying anything else they haven't played is more like an uneducated guess.
That's like if someone said Resident Evil 6 was an amazing game because it was not only the only Resident Evil they've played, but the only shooter. How many shooters was there in this gen alone?
Again. Most people on here are going to have played more games. You're on a gaming forum, and you're probably really big into gaming if you're on one. So with as few games as those on here have played in comparison to what's out there, the average Pokemon fan has probably played far less.
I created the thread because people say Pokemon sells well because it's a great game. Pokemon sells well because people it's a first party game that people are used to. Mario hasn't been close to as good as it has been in the past, except maybe Super Mario 3D World, but every single game sells well regardless of quality. Nintendo fans buy it because it's a Nintendo product and they have an inherent bias that each and every game is amazing regardless how many flaws or problems the game has. They're weened into it. It's the reason Nintendo releases the same tired franchises over and over and over.
