I think location is a bigger issue than price. Lots of people don't have coffee tables and most wouldn't want a device stuck there. People also aren't going to want a permanent overhead mount. One solution would be sticking it on the player's controller. That'd also be a good way to hide the price. $60 standard controllers and then $150 illumiroom controllers. They could just put it where the Kinect trackers are.

You want to stick a 3000 lumen projector into a controller??? And it's more likely they used a 5000 for 6000 lumen projector for the demo.
