And that's something I just wrote about in a blog post later, that's not entirely correct.

Nintendo knows it needs money to survive, but a close look at a company's behavior patterns and statements can give you the underlying message.  Nintendo wants to just make games, they won't want to have to compete with Sony/Microsoft, they don't want to have to spend billions on hardware and graphics engines to lure "hardcore gamers" because it sells well, they don't even want to be mainstream (clearly).  Nintendo has success and they know a familiar face brings people back, but if there ever was a company that seemed the LEAST interested in doing things for money, it would be Nintendo.

Because they can't. That would be the worst business decision. wasn't the Gamecube precisely that?

You must not know too much about Nintendo themselves.  They CAN, they clearly choose NOT to.  The company still has billions sitting in the bank, and operates with ZERO debt.  If they WANTED to compete, they COULD (let's face it, Sony and Microsoft compete with each other by throwing money and power at things, both of which Nintendo also has), but they prefer to do their own thing, and I respect that.

They choose not to because they're smart. Yeah they can make a strong console and pay lots of devs to make games for their system, but again that would be the worst business decision and will lead to the downfall of the company long term.

I have to break the 3-quotes tree rule, because I think you just argued with yourself without realizing it...
