The only reason they launched the console in 2013 was because of Sony. The media was following Sony's dev kits and said a long time ago that Sony was prepared well ahead of Microsoft. People think I am joking when I say that Microsoft is only in this industry to distract Sony from gaining ground in multimedia and from affecting the console realm. MS has only worsened the issue. Microsoft doesn't like leaving Sony with too much breathing room because they know in the gaming industry that Sony is a dominant force.

Well MS must be preparing its exit strategy, because Sony is a shell of what it was in 2000 when PS2 launched. And Consoles are no longer a realistic prospect as the entertainment hub of the house. Apple/Google TV, Smart TVs and and tablets are where control of the home is at now. If MS wan't to dominate the not just the living room buyt the whole house they need to ddrop out of consoles fast and focus on the devices that WILL own the future.

In terms of MS's over all strategy for the consumer electronics market Xb one was the past before it even launched.

Consoles do more than what stand alone TV computerized TV's do. Gaming will always have a place as long as there are people looking for fun  and a challenge. If there was anyone who would willingly drop out of the console race, it would be Microsoft. Its Sony and Nintendos bread and butter.

If M$ dropped out of the console business, they would be giving up all hopes of a unified system to deliver content.  That was the whole point of Windows Phone and Windows 8 and Xbox One.  Soon enough, you will be able to purchase a number of games and content that will play and be usable across all of the M$ platforms.

Gaming isn't Sony's main business.  It just happens to be the only thing making any money for them right now.  They too are trying to keep a foothold in the living rooms.  They also recognize that that isn't enough and are working on systems to sell their vast amount of content through all channels on the internet, not just the PS3/PS4.

Stop saying gaming isn't Sony's main business. It has been a major form of profit for them especially in the wake of their issues. A lot of people investing in MS don't like the gaming industry. Sony historically speaking thought the gaming industry was a joke but today it is their bread and butter just like Nintendo. Microsoft could leave at any time just like they did with the Zune. They jump on companies with multimedia products  when they feel threatened.

Your theory of M$'s fear of Sony is well documented in your comments throughtout many threads.  I disagree with it and that will lead to nowhere for us to comment on each others ideas.

Anyone who has done their reasearch on Microsoft should know about Microsofts issues with Sony or anyone who has endeavors of being a multimedia company. Microsoft has a monopolistic train of thought and they cannot stand competition. Sony wanted nothing to do with Microsoft so Microsoft decided to take them out, especially since Sony threatened the PC market. I have no clue how you can look at Microsofts movements and not seen how almost all of it outside of OS has been a response to the movements of Sony.

The Ex VP of Microsoft.

Every move Microsoft makes in the gaming industry is primarily focused on downing Sony.

"The main reason was to stop Sony," he said in an interview with IGN.

"You see, Sony and Microsoft... they never had a very friendly relationship, okay? And this wasn't because Microsoft didn't want that."

The way Kempin tells it, Bill Gates himself had concerns that a future PlayStation could evolve into something that might threaten Microsoft's bread and butter, the home PC. And there was an element of unrequited love.

"Sony was always very arm's length with Microsoft. Yeah, they bought Windows for their PCs but when you really take a hard look at that, they were never Microsoft's friend. And Microsoft in a way wanted them to be a friend because they knew they had a lot of things we could have co-operated on because they are, in a way, an entertainment company, you know?"
