Well, if you were ever around during last gen then you know Sony is very good at doing that.

The PS3 was an exception not the rule ...

How was it an exception?

Sony practically had to pull all the stops for that to work. It wasn't until the PS3 slim with decent games that Sony started doing acceptable numbers. The 3DS is also another exception too seeing as how Nintendo had to do practically the same for it.
