Wouldn't that do the exact opposite? If I knew a successor was coming soon I'd skip the Wii U entirely, especially if the successor is backwards compatible. I don't expect them to announce the Wii U's successor until E3 2015, with a release in either Holiday 2015 or Holiday 2016.
