Fortunately, I'm always closer to the brides than the grooms in most cases, so I haven't hit that scenario yet. I'm assuming he picked the flashier (or gaudier) looking ring though because if you can't figure out which looks better, you pick the one that looks the most expensive. ;p Otherwise, it's good that you have a friend that would listen to you, because I'm certain my straight male friends wouldn't listen to me. :[ |
Oh, I wasn't clear. He was buying the ring for himself!
I think he may have even told people that his boyfriend bought it for him. He wanted people to notice how flashy it was. (yes, this is a mid 30's male, not a 14 year old girl.)
I like the older more traditional way, where two people to together and chose the ring together. The Jewelry companies realized that when the bride was there, she would want a smaller ring, and put more money down on a house. So they ran a bunch of adds to change the rules. Like that ‘spend 2 months salary’ line.
Just like how they bought all those add to make people want to buy diamonds with that 'diamonds are forever' slogan.
I've been to weddings with a 'Dude of Honor.' Maybe you can be one someday.
