You read that wrong, it's not saying PS4 can't fail, it's saying SCE can't afford to have PS4 fail.
And lol, cave in to consumers? Just listen to yourself trying to call pro-consumer a bad thing.
Actually Sony took the approach of listening to developers, making a platform that's easier to develop for and cheaper to build a large userbase, not going for any crazy gimmicks out of the gate. Less conventional ideas like PS Now & VR are not forced in the box.
