The only way to save wii U comes with big losses.
They have to sell it very cheap, or even give it for free(in exchange for your wii, maybe?!).
(crazy ideia: a diskless SKU for free and a large HD, people would buy digital only. And digital profit more than physical...[ok, forget.])
Would be the only way i can see it pass the 30 million mark.
Investors wouldnt agree with that, so, there is no hope for wii U.
The only hope for nintendo in this gen is if QoL works.

For next gen, release it more early than in 8 gen. Maybe 3 years before PS5. and with a good price, thirdie parties, and more porwerfull than PS4, more mature IPs, . Gimkys only optional.
And even so, is not sure that it would work.
