Wait did you read the OP? I said all characters have the same amount of colors as Brawl. And if Sakurai wants to release this game in 2014, he's not going to put all models of Link in when he can focus on fine tuning other aspect of the games.
And what's the shame of adding more content to your game that is already complete? It's like buying paint to paint your car!
