So, then let's plays would be considered art, but the game being played is not?

But i am pretty sure "things watched or looked at" is not a good definition for art.

Performance Artists would also strongly disagree.

The big problem here is people want to keep "their" art as something special, it's pretty much a fanboy thing to disregard any other or new kind of art.

A play is considered art by the person observing. Whether this is because of the performance or the writing. The performance artist themselves are not 'art' they are equivilent to the paintbrush in production of a painting. The final outcome may be considered art and without them it might be considered junk but it is the final outcome that is the 'art'.

Perfect answer on your last point though, Art in itself is based on interpretation of what an individual considers art. Most gamers may consider some games art and other just entertainment, the same way a film maker would consider some films art and others entertainment. Art is subjective.

Well, my initial pont was that i would like to hear a general definition of art from people who like to exclude video games.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
