I would be interested to hear their definition of what is considered to be art, because i am pretty sure they would have to include some arbitrary rules to exclude video games from a sane definition.

Many consider video games... well games. You play them, interact on a physical level in most cases. In definition of the term 'game' it includes the idea of interacting with something to have enjoyment or competition. Games are both of these. Yet so is Chess, could Chess be considered art? It is a game, the best ever made, is it art?

Most other art is just watched or looked at. You rarely interact like you do with games. This can be a big difference for many people.

So, then let's plays would be considered art, but the game being played is not?

But i am pretty sure "things watched or looked at" is not a good definition for art.

Performance Artists would also strongly disagree.

The big problem here is people want to keep "their" art as something special, it's pretty much a fanboy thing to disregard any other or new kind of art.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
