Gamepad is fine, but just get the basic classic controller for Wii U.

I have the second one. But think I had the first one on Wii. Got it with Monster hunter tri.

Both have been great! Whichever is cheaper, my man!

"Classic controllers" need a Wiimote to plug into.  I'd say the gamepad and 1 wiimote/nunchuk is the way to start.  I have a "U" Pro controller as well, and that thing is one sleek and sweet controller.

So a Wiimote/nunchuk and a Wii Classic controller? and I will be able to play anything I want?

So if I get these

I can play Wii games and play games like New Super Mario U and Super Mario 3D World with my GF?
