Well we know that the Wii U as is doesn't appeal to the masses either. 

Somehow I doubt a $199.99 or $249.99 SKU would make sales lower than they are now. 


I suppose that's true. As long as they keep a SKU with the gamepad and then have one without, I guess there really is no harm in trying it, though they'd have to rework the marketing quite a bit to get people to understand the vast difference between the two SKUs and we all know Nintendo did one hell of a job marketing the Wii U's gamepad in the first place harhar.
