Wii U's lower RAM bandwidth is a non-issue if you use its much faster eDRAM for operations requiring rapid memory. And 1GB is considerably better than <500MB. Any scene requiring 600, 700, or 900MB of assets at once would be undoable on PS3/360. Wii U's GPU is better as well.

The eDRAM is only useful in a few situations such as storing render targets and depth buffers but other than that it really ain't supposed to be used for texturing operation. In fact I'd argue that the xbox 360's implimentation of eDRAM is better than the WII Us.

360's use of eDRAM is terrible, 10MB is just too small for a HD system; in fact, it forced sub-HD resolutions in many games.
Both Shin'en and the dev from that Eurogamer article on early Wii U development have stated that thanks to the eDRAM, memory bandwidth is not a problem for Wii U.
