So I was lucky and got it in my mail today, and have played through the first two worlds, and I can confirm that it tops DKC Returns in every single way! It's just a REALLY, really good game. Now when I see how much Retro has evolved in 2D platformers since Returns, I can see how they wanted to make this game. And it looks much, much better when you play it compared to watching trailers and stuff! So many polygons, in the backgrounds and everything. The level design is WAY more clever than the previous, and don't get me started on the soundtrack... Easily the best soundtrack for a platformer since Galaxy. David Wise has outdone himself. I don't know how much Yamamoto has contributed to the music, but the sound design is just... perfect.
I thought I'd be worn out on platformers now that the Wii U has many of them, having played and finished everything in NSMBU, 3D World (almost finished everything), Rayman Legends and so on. But this is in a whole other league. It doesn't feel like a rehash in any way.
Tropical Freeze feels like a neccessary game to exist, and that was NOT what I thought when it was first revealed at E3. Even the latest Direct, a few days ago, I could not see why Retro chose to make this game. I just pre ordered it since we're facing a long drought now... But now I really want it to be a trilogy. I really hope that they make yet ANOTHER installment, because this is easily as important as the Prime games. One day ago I would never say this, because I feel that Returns was just a well-made game, but not anything amazing like Prime. Now that I've played Tropical Freeze I've been proven WRONG.
Guys, look forward to playing this if you haven't done so already!!! Best game for Wii U so far, and I repeat, I would never say this a day ago, when I hadn't played it. Retro has outdone themselves. Now I want another one so that it can be another classic trilogy, and I hope for the third one that David Wise is once again available. I'm not saying I don't want another Metroid from Retro, but this game is just insanely fun to play.
I didn't tell anything about the stuff in the game itself since I want all of you to experience for yourself.
Yep.
