The truth is, we need to accept that Nintendo's baseline, at least for the foreseeable future, is going to be lower than the other two, barring they pull another viral experience out of their hat. There is nothing wrong with that, either. They can make a cheaper console with cheaper game development and still do very well for themselves. Their own software sells very well--they just need to turn a profit on everything. Nintendo needs to stay away from the loss leading approach.

This is definitely what Nintendo needs to do. They can't go huge on things, they just need to do it wihtin Nintendo's own terms. Within the realms of Nintendo's reality. Doing things like taking a loss on the 3DS and Wii U are what have really hurt them financially. They don't need to be the chart leader in Hardware. That's not their thing, in home consoles at least. Their thing is that they have extremely strong and popular IPs that sell. All they need is a popular enough and profitable enough vehicle to deliver them in.
