Final Fantasy VII sold 10m in one release.

Final Fantasy X "series" sold 13m across 2 releases.

Judging by the lukewarm response to Lightning Returns in Japan, I wouldn't say the XIII series has any steam left in it.

And don't get me wrong - I've enjoyed bits of the XIII series myself (mainly XIII-2), but Lightning has been completely and utterly forced upon the public and if she has any kind of popularity it only comes from being shoved down people's throats at every opportunity.

I don't like lightning, but you cant say she has no fans.

And that may be only me, but even if I loved FFXII I am not interested in a HD remake, while I am for X.

Plus XIII is still fresh in people mind, while XII is, well, old now. (even if this hurts to say)

Finally it's worth mentionning the only reason FFVII is the best selling in the series is because it was the first in 3D.
