Granted, neither is Wii U, but for the same underlying reasons (i've written before about why Nintendo "can't" make red ocean consoles. It's not in their DNA)

But SNES worked well for Nintendo.

Gamecube's problem was that PS2 was already a huge success and had all the main system sellers, back then multiplatform development was too hard and not worthy anyway.
