Somini said: The release of January NPD Group data today provides a chance to reflect on the success of Xbox One. We are incredibly humbled and proud to see Xbox One continue to be the best launch of an Xbox in our history. Comparatively, Xbox One consoles have sold at a rate of 2.29 times faster than Xbox 360 in the U.S. in the same timeframe for the first three months on the market. From our blazing start out of the gate, we have continued to see Xbox One delight fans in 13 markets around the world, with many more markets to come this year. http://news.xbox.com/2014/02/xbox-one-january-npd?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |
So if that's the full extent of MS PR on this can people please stop talking smack about Sony not releassing numbers in months where the PS4 isn't the top home console? Or alternatively be equal opportunity smack talkers. Kudos in advance to Major Nelson IF he tweets (or otherwise publicly reveals) the Xb one NPD figure for January.
WTF PS4 being double Xb one? I can't imagine that means massive PS4 sales, so does that mean huge drop in Xb one sales?
If MS drops the price of Xb one (without removing Kinect) the anti-Xbos shareholders will throw a fit, because that means Xb one losing money without blasting past PS4. But if USA does flip for PS4 by a wide margin then a Kinectless Xb one at $399 (or even less) becomes much more likely.
As I've said in other threads, Xb one is already being discounted in other markets by as much as US$40 (in local currency equivalents). However those other markets are sellling Xb one at >US$499 in local currency equivalent, so MS isn't realy taking a revenue hit with that discounting, and the retailer is probably still making a small margin. If US retailers started discounting Xb one by as much as $40 or $50 that would mean someone is taking a loss.
